One More Reason Diet Coke is Great!

My family, friends and students know that I am a HUGE Diet Coke drinker. I love Diet Coke. First beverage of the morning and beverage of choice for most of the day. This morning I saw these guys on TV who use 2-liter bottles of Diet Coke and drop Mentos into them to make them spew in time to music. It was hilarious!!!! I am trying to link to their website so you can enjoy this funny, funny video.

I Love to Travel

Sometimes just driving around the beautiful world that God has created for us is a spiritual experience. Each section of the globe has such beautiful scenery. I am so happy that God has granted me the gift of sight so that I can enjoy the sights of the world.

The central Tennessee country side was so perfect these past few days. I can't wait to see what the drving trip to New York state and Washington, DC has to offer. That will happen in a couple of weeks. Should be a great trip.

Some stuff

Since that last post was about the South, I am going to put my time where my mouth is....Gene and I are meeting our friends and going to drive around some of the backroads of Tennessee. We might even slip over into Alabama or Mississippi. It should be a fun time. The guys are going on their motorcycles and the ladies are going in the convertible. I plan on having fun. I'll bet that we also sample the food at as many diiners as we can scout out.

I am also saying special prayers for friends having babies...Charissa and Mark just had a sweet baby girl, Jenn and Aaron are waiting for their baby boy to arrive at any moment, and Rena and Wheeler are praying that the complications subside and they have a healthy mom and baby in August. Please say a prayer for each family as you read this.

Being Southern

I LOVE that I come from Southern roots. I consider Texas my homestate, but I am Southern through and through. I love my Southern friends. I love our traditions. I love that my daughter likes her Southern roots. Like the comments on the last blog said...we have manners down here and they matter. We love our families, even the crazy ones. We care about each other. I love that the real Soutern lady will see a friend she hasn't seen in weeks and say, "Cute shoes, how's your mama?" I just love it all. I love that when we invite friends over for a meal we "fix" ( and not just "cook") four or five more dishes than we need. I

Please share your favorite Southern things with me!

Why Is It?

Gene and I have chosen to live in a place where one of the most enjoyable social settings is centered around food. We have this terrific group of friends who love to go out to eat. We go to great places and enjoy both the food and the fellowship. I just wish I could order more responsibly. However, the fellowship far outweighs my need to eat heathily. I just love visiting over a nice meal. I have such good friends. Do I tell them enough? Probably not. You are so much fun and such good friends. You know who you are...

I Promise, It Was Not Me

I had absolutely nothing to do with the plague of biting flies that seems to have descended on my friends at the beach. While it is true that I wish I could be there with them, I did not make any divine request that they have difficulites! It was not me.

Delayed Gratification

Tomorrow several of my friends are leaving for Gulf Shores, Alabama. I am typically in the car with them and I am a little sad. This is “Ladies Week” at the beach and only women are allowed. It is our very own version of “Lilith Beach.” The rules are that you can do anything that does not disturb the others in the house. It is a really nice and relaxing time. I can act silly or I can act sad or I can just sit quietly and most of the time nobody cares. I typically don’t spend so much time in the sun, but I do enjoy the beach in the late afternoon and at night. I will miss that and I will miss all the reading and good books that circulate.

I am not going with my friends this year for two reasons. First is because I am working this summer session to get the process of a master’s degree program in communication sciences and disorders off and running. Lots of paper work and developing mission statements and goals and stuff. The second reason is that I need to save money for the fall. I am going to spend the fall in Italy. So don’t feel bad for me…I have a more than wonderful experience coming up this fall.
